Police Patrol Canine Handler Course The canine will be trained in advanced on and off lead obedience and control, including hand commands. He will be trained in agility to enable him to surmount various obstacles such as walls, ditches, fences, etc.. Canine will be trained in evidence search to locate various items of lost and stolen property, weapons, evidence of crime, etc.. He will be trained in area search; on and off lead in restrictive areas for the presence of humans. Canine will be trained to search indoors or covered structures for the presence of humans. He will be trained to enter and exit vehicles in various ways, and to react to situation and commands in relation to same. Canine will be trained to track, to follow the path of a human on foot on varying terrains and conditions. He will protect his handler and himself from physical threat, will apprehend on command, release upon command, and recall from pursuit on command. In addition, canine will be trained to guard and escort prisoners. Handlers will be well-versed on canine safety and health care, and legal updates and considerations. Handler training will be subjected to numerous survival techniques. Each handler will be required to obtain a 80% proficiency in a practical examination, and a 80% proficiency in a written examination to receive certification from Southern Police Canine, Inc. This course of instruction is four weeks (260 hours). Prices include handlers course, food and lodging, and all necessary equipment to maintain canine. |
