Detection Canine Handler Course The canine will be trained in basic obedience and off-lead control.  Canine will locate and indicate the presence of Marijuana, Hashish, Cocaine, and Heroin, or 9 specified explosive odors in various amounts and strengths, etc.  Handler training will be conducted in numerous environments, vehicles, etc., and in realistic situations. Handlers will be well-versed in canine safety and health care by a licensed veterinarian; search patterns and techniques, and legal updates and considerations by a state district attorney. Each handler will be required to obtain a 80% proficiency in a practical examination, and a 80% proficiency in a written examination to receive certification from Southern Police Canine, Inc.. This course of instruction is two weeks (130 hours) for narcotics, or three weeks (180 hours) for explosives.
